Blue covers are worn and bumped to corners, spine ends and edges. Light scratching and rubbing to covers. A number of pages near front are split at the hinge, where they are attached by cord binding only. A few small tears to five illustrations. Pages 271-278 are missing, the Battle of Shiloh (Pittsburg Landing) and pages 257-260 are missing. Fep is taped to title page at hinge. Only a few illustrations have light wear to the edges. Illustrations are in very fine condition. Gilt illustration and lettering to front and spine are bright. Pages are very clean, and edges nicely retain the original marbled design. Copyright contains the claim "This work is soldy by subscription only, and will never be for sale in book stores."
